House Passes Christmas Stimulus

It says something about the times that we live in that a second, $155 billion stimulus bill that the U.S. House passed yesterday barely registered a blip on the news radar screen. After all, in a year that began with a $787 billion economic stimulus bill and is ending with an $849 billion health care bill, what’s a little $155 billion? Here are some highlights:

● $75 billion for bailing out banks

● $23 billion to cover 250,000 teacher salaries and repairs to school buildings

● $1.2 billion for 5,500 police officer salaries

● $53.3 billion for unemployment and health care benefits for those out of work
